If I subscribe to the notion "Be the change you want to see in the world", and the change I most want to see in the (software) world is better managers, then what conclusion does that lead me to?
I think I could paraphrase Giles Bowkett fairly and come up with this:
If you think the world needs better software managers, then be that manager.
Hmm...

I've always hated management activities. Software development is much more fun.
However, lack of good management has always pushed me up into that position.
I'm beginning to think that my talent would best be used as a manager who "gets it". I'm realizing that all the software development best practices, methodologies, techniques, languages, etc. I read about are essentially worthless if I'm toiling under management that doesn't understand or doesn't care about such things. Maybe I could be that manager that's been missing at every company I've worked for. Many developers (myself included) complain about management, but very few of them are doing anything about it. I want to do something about it.
